2025 Committee Application

Thank you for your interest in serving on the 2025 Future of Florida Summit (FOF) Student Organizing Committee.

Applications are due 11:59 PM (EST) on Wednesday, April 24. Thirty-minute Zoom interviews will be held the weeks of April 29 and May 6.

The Summit brings together students from public and private universities and colleges in Florida for a weekend of meaningful discussion and deliberation on some of the issues most pressing to their generation, with a focus on a specific public policy topic. Past topics have included A.I., K-12 education, healthcare, criminal justice reform, and technology. The 2025 public policy topic focuses on the Gulf of Mexico.

Committee members are responsible for the development and execution of the Summit and responsibilities vary depending on the committee assignment. Applications are open to all undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in a Florida postsecondary institution. Prior attendance at FOF is not required.

Note: committee members outside Alachua County will participate remotely in the planning process, but are expected to attend the Summit in person.

Overall Committee Roles and Responsibilities:

    Committee member positions require 2 – 5 hours per week with a heavier workload during the Spring semester.

  • Attend all Future of Florida Summit (FOF) organizing committee meetings, including:
    • Three all-committee virtual meetings during the summer (dates TBD)
    • Weekly meetings during the 2024-2025 Academic Year
  • Prepare for, staff, and attend the 2025 in-person Summit
  • Actively participate in the development and execution of the Summit
  • Work collaboratively with the Bob Graham Center faculty and staff, as well as committee members to execute a successful event
  • Contribute to the final report on the Summit

Committee Roles and Responsibilities:

Research Team:

  • Research and develop the breakout topics for the Summit theme by the beginning of Fall 2024
  • Research and identify potential keynote speakers and panelists.
  • Serve as moderators for panel discussions during the Summit, including moderator training and development of the moderator guide.
  • Draft background guides on the respective breakout panel topics for participant use
  • Develop and implement the post-Summit exit survey, including analyzing the data and making recommendations for future Summits.
  • Research speakers relevant to the respective panels

Public Relations Team:

  • Draft the Summit marketing plan over the summer to promote to all Florida universities
  • Collaborate with the Bob Graham Center’s Communications Director to develop and create content to promote the Summit, including regular meetings
  • Oversee the functionality and development of the FOF website, including maintaining and refreshing content from past Summits and promoting the 2025 Summit
  • Oversee the development and execution of FOF-related social media, including Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin, and X
  • Update the maintain the contact database of public and private Florida state universities and colleges
  • Proficiency with Canva, WordPress, and social media, as well as overall graphic design or video creation and editing experience, is recommended, but not required
  • In partnership with the Logistics committee, develop the necessary marketing materials for the Summit weekend

Summit Logistics Team:

  • Identify and coordinate all venue-related logistics for the Summit, including event spaces, meeting spaces, and hotel blocks
  • Identify and coordinate catering for the three-day Summit
  • Work with the Chair and co-chair to develop the production schedule
  • Produce the Public Policy Planning Workshop on Zoom
  • In partnership with the Public Relations committee develop an onsite marketing and signage plan for the weekend of the Summit

ALL committee members are expected to staff and attend the weekend-long Summit. Successful candidates will have a can-do attitude and value teamwork and collaboration.


Director Roles and Responsibilities

All directors are responsible for leading and maintaining oversight of their teams. This position requires a minimum of 5-7 hours per week throughout the year, which will likely increase to 10-12 during the spring semester. Below are some specific responsibilities (in addition to the ones listed above) that a director will need to fulfill.

Directors are the first point of contact regarding their team’s deadlines and workload. Part of their duties include effective communication with the Chair and Co-Chair as well as attending regular director meetings.

Director of Summit Logistics

  • Serve as the point person for the Summit Logistics Team to establish the schedule for the Summit, coordinating with the other committees and the Chair
  • As direct head of the Summit Logistics Team, the co-chair will be responsible for assigning and overseeing the responsibilities of coordinating catering, hotel accommodations, venue reservations, and overall logistics for the Summit
  • Manage the development of the production schedule for the Summit Weekend
  • Assist the Chair with any additional responsibilities
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Chair and the faculty advisor

Director of Research

  • Lead the Research team in the development of panel questions, background guides, and breakout topics, including copy editing
  • Oversee the Research team’s efforts in identifying and securing keynote speakers and panelists, including contacting experts for recommendations
  • Create, maintain, and manage the list of Summit speakers. This includes maintaining contact information, and biographical info and coordinating their travel or lodging as needed.

Director of Public Relations

  • Develop and execute the public relations plan for the development and promotion of the Summit
  • Lead the public relations team in the creation and posting of graphics, videos, and promo materials
  • Establish regular meetings with the Bob Graham Center Communications Director
  • Develop an alumni database
  • Proficiency with Canva, WordPress, and Social Media platforms is required
